If you’ve ever had to call a field employee just to find out where they are, you already know why location tracking apps exist. It’s not about watching every move someone makes, it’s about not having to guess, call, or wait for a WhatsApp update that may or may not be accurate.
We looked at eight apps used by Indian businesses for what each one actually does well, where it falls short, and what it costs. We’re including Waggex in this list too, and we’ll be upfront that we think it earns a strong position but we’ve tried to give every app here a fair, honest look, pros and cons included.
What Actually Matters in a Location Tracking App
- Does it track only during work hours? Anything that tracks outside check-in to check-out isn’t something you want to roll out to your team and it’s a legal grey area under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which requires clear consent and limited use.
- Does it connect to payroll? Tracking location is only half the job. If that data doesn’t feed into salary calculations, someone’s still doing manual work every month.
- Does it work when the network is weak? A lot of field work happens in basements, industrial areas, or rural areas with poor signal. The app needs to handle that gracefully.
- Can it be tricked? Fake GPS apps are common. A good tracking tool should catch and block these, not just record whatever the phone reports.
1. Waggex
Website: waggex.com
Best for: Indian SMEs with field, remote, or mixed teams
Pricing: ₹2 per employee per day
We built Waggex’s Live Location Tracking because we kept hearing the same complaint from business owners: “I know my team checked in, but I have no idea where they are right now.” So we made sure location tracking isn’t a separate tool bolted onto attendance; it’s part of the same system as payroll, leave, and compliance.
Every check-in is paired with FaceLens face verification, so you’re not just seeing a dot on a map you know it’s actually the right person. Location data is verified on our server, not just trusted from the phone, which is what stops fake GPS apps from getting through. And because attendance flows directly into payroll, PF, ESI, and TDS calculate from the same verified data nobody’s exporting a file and reimporting it somewhere else.

A Quick Word on Legality
Tracking employee location is legal in India, but it isn’t unconditional. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, employees need to be informed about the tracking policy and give documented consent. Whatever app you choose, make sure tracking is limited to work hours and that your team knows exactly what’s being tracked and why. Most of the tools in this list, including Waggex, are built with that boundary in mind but it’s worth confirming directly with any vendor before you roll something out.
Which One Should You Pick?
- Wants to tracking, attendance, and payroll in one affordable system: Waggex. This is where we think it has the clearest edge.
- Field-heavy team, slightly higher budget is fine: SalaryBox.
- Structured sales routes pharma, FMCG: TrackOlap or dayTrack.
- Very tight budget, just need basic tracking: TeamSpoor’s free plan.
- Large dispersed team, no payroll integration needed: ConnectMyWorld.
- Mix of office and field staff, want activity monitoring too: DeskTrack.
- Remote or international team: Hubstaff.
| Before you commit to any of these: Run a real trial with 5–10 of your actual field employees for a couple of weeks. Network conditions, phone models, and how your team actually works in the field will tell you more than any feature list. Most apps on this list, including Waggex, offer a free trial or free starting plan for exactly this reason. |
